Lesson 8a: Tagging - Social Bookmarking

Created an account on Del.icio.us, I can only imagine how useful this tool can be in the real world of surfing the web when looking for a specific topic. After creating the account I played around and looked at some sites that I might want to “bookmark” and found it very easy to substitute a TAG rather than go through the process of bookmarking to ‘My Favorites’. You see an advantage to using tags especially when you start looking for a bookmark under ‘My Favorites’. I never seem to remember exactly where it was I filed that particular bookmark. Now it will be easier. All I have to remember is the TAG I used. It is also helpful to have a list of the tags I have assigned.

After looking at the site Technorati that to me looked like a news site, I do not know what to think. I would guess if you just wanted to see the news dealing with certain tags such as the Presidential Election it could be of help. To make any kind of a comment on Technorati I need more information. I will continue to look into this medium or someone can enlighten me. At this time, I do not see much value in it.

In all fairness, I think Technorati has evolved since the Library 2.0 class was first developed. And it does seem to be more of a news site today than it was a couple of years ago. At that time it was one of the few ways to search blogs for content. Now you can set Google alerts to search blogs for content and have it delivered as RSS feeds. We might include something like that in future classes.
